Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Hymark and Kentucky Gauge?

Hymark is the company name (Hymark Ltd) and Kentucky Gauge is the brand of the equipment, built at our facility in Owensboro, Kentucky.

How accurate are your pushers and length stops?

The Kentucky Gauge positioning accuracy as published is +/-0.001inch per foot of travel. These accuracies can be verified with metallic scales and standards traceable to NIST, but it shall clearly be stated that the gauge as it stands alone is not a material cutting or part producing machine and cut part tolerances are not the responsibility of the Kentucky Gauge device unless expressly written as such in a turnkey solution package.

The Kentucky Gauge PD systems encompass a linear encoder scale system and pushes material from the end, not in an indexing manner, with a 5 micron (0.0002inch) sensor resolution. Factors unrelated to the gauge positioning have effects on cut length tolerances. Factors include but are not limited to:

  • saw blade runout (horizontal and vertical runouts),
  • changing of saw blade without entering new kerf factor,
  • straightness of material being pushed from the end
  • improper engaging of the gripper on the material causing slippage when stopping
  • saw clamps clamping uneven stock at the blade causing flexing,
  • temperature fluctuations causing material shrinkage or expansion,
  • levelness of gauge as mounted to table/structure.

All of these factors should be including in length tolerance factors of produced parts.
